Already this Saturday, the great event Battle for Bratislava…
\nOn October 1, 2022, the Battle of Bratislava cultural and historical festival will take place in Bratislava’s Janka Kr\u00e1\u013e Garden.<\/div>\n
The main part of its program will be the reconstruction of a military battle from the first half of the 17th century, set in the environment of historical Hungary.
\nAs always, you can look forward to a historical camp, examples of period life, examples of regiments, a period parade through the Old Town and of course the Battle of Bratislava – a reconstruction of a baroque military clash from 1620.
\nIn this edition, we will go back in time to 1620 – it will be a reconstruction of the battle, or rather the short siege, which took place in front of the city gates on October 8, 1620.
\nThe armies of the rebellious Czech states were already headed for inevitable defeat in the well-known Battle of Biela Hora, and Gabriel Bethlen’s uprising was also losing its importance at that time. That is why the imperial commander Dampierre tried to seize Bratislava, then Pre\u0161pork, still controlled by Bethlen’s men, with an unexpected attack. The fight lasted from early morning until four o’clock in the afternoon. Imperial soldiers fired at the city walls, and Dampierre himself made three sorties at the head of the assault group. In the last attack, however, he was hit by a fatal shot and his mercenaries were forced to retreat all the way to Vienna.
